The Sudbury & District Health Unit (SDHU) is an accredited public health agency committed to improving health and reducing social inequities in health through evidence-informed practice. The SDHU is part of a provincial network of 36 non-profit public health agencies, funded jointly by local and provincial governments. The SDHU has a focus on health equity.
In 2013 the SDHU published an evaluation of the Ontario Public Health Standards Planning Path, an equity-focused planning approach for the Ontario public health context.
In October 2010 SDHU published Social Inequities in Health and SDHU: Building our Path for the Next Ten Years: Building our Path for the Next Ten Years, a strategic document to guide the health unit over a ten year period. They have also produced 10 Promising Practices to Guide Local Public Health Practice to Reduce Social Inequities in Health: Technical Briefing to support local public health to take action on reducing inequities.
