Vancouver Coastal Health Authority
The Vancouver Coastal Health Authority is a regional health authority that provides health services to more than a million residents living in Vancouver, Vancouver’s North Shore, Richmond, the Sea-to-Sky Highway, Sunshine Coast, Bella Bella, Bella Coola the Central Coast and the surrounding areas.
The health authority produced a fifteen minute film with Lemongrass Media about the determinants of health and health equity through a series of interviews. The video, titled Population Health: A New Agenda, talks to senior public health officials and community residents about the importance of determinants of health and the challenges caused by health inequities.
- The Vancouver Coastal Health Authority published Towards a Population Health Promotion Approach (February 2006) with an emphasis on leadership, partnership, advocacy, and policy development. The document states that “…it is essential to have an understanding of the interrelated conditions and factors that influence health – the determinants of health” (p. 4). The report recommends that a public health agency may become an “instigator” (p. 6) of partnerships that are outside the traditional ambit of public health.
