This report by Human Impact Partners discusses how inattention to carceral facilities has led to increased COVID-19 cases in prisons.

The authors offer eight recommendations for mitigation and prevention to address the dangers of imprisonment during the pandemic, including the following:

  • Improved prison conditions
  • Decarceration (releasing inmates and offering community supports to help them thrive)
  • Better healthcare access
  • Vaccine prioritization
  • Equitable testing requirements
  • Limiting transportation of prisoners
