This report by Human Impact Partners discusses how inattention to carceral facilities has led to increased COVID-19 cases in prisons.
The authors offer eight recommendations for mitigation and prevention to address the dangers of imprisonment during the pandemic, including the following:
- Improved prison conditions
- Decarceration (releasing inmates and offering community supports to help them thrive)
- Better healthcare access
- Vaccine prioritization
- Equitable testing requirements
- Limiting transportation of prisoners
