Transformer les systèmes de santé et de services sociaux pour mieux répondre aux besoins des personnes 2ELGBTQI+ d’expression française en milieu minoritaire

French

This webinar will be delivered in French only. Registration will be limited to 1000 people. The webinar will be recorded and made available on the NCCDH webinar page following the webinar.

There have been two webinars on a related topic in English. Access them here:

French-speaking 2SLGBTQI+ individuals in Manitoba are faced with unique challenges at the crossroads of their sexual orientation, their gender identity, and their status as members of a linguistic minority. These realities amplify the risks of discrimination, stigmatization, and marginalization, with significant repercussions on their health and wellbeing.

Since its founding in 2019, Le Collectif LGBTQ* du Manitoba (The Manitoba LGBTQ* Collective) has been committed to understanding and responding to the specific needs of this community through such actions as undertaking research initiatives in the community. This ensures that members of the community can participate fully in all stages of the research process, from gathering data to developing and implementing the services that will be available to them. During this webinar, participants will be given the opportunity to explore two of the Collectif’s key research projects, namely:

  • Des nôtres : une analyse des besoins des personnes 2ELGBTQI+ d'expression française au Manitoba (One of Us: an analysis of French-speaking 2SLGBTQI+ individuals in Manitoba): this study, the first of its kind in the Canadian West, shines a light on the systemic obstacles and inequities confronting this population while proposing pathways for creating safe and inclusive services.

  • Bien dans notre peau (Comfortable with who we are): a project that draws on the results of the aforementioned study and proposes a diagnostic tool, developed using data gathered in the community, to guide the transformation of social and health services with regard to safety, inclusion, and equity.

The webinar will end with a presentation of the project now underway—Vers des soins pour tous.tes (Towards care for all)—which explores how health systems can be made more accessible and equitable for 2SLGBTQI+ individuals.

This webinar will be of interest to:

  • Practitioners and managers in public health and politicians with decision-making powers
  • Researchers in community health
  • Anyone involved in making decisions relating to equity and inclusion in healthcare for French-speaking 2SLGBTQI+ populations throughout the country

Objectives:

  • To better understand the barriers encountered by French-speaking 2SLGBTQI+ individuals living as members of a linguistic minority, as is the case in Manitoba.
  • To come up with innovative solutions, proposed by members of the community, with the aim of transforming social and health service systems to better meet the safety, inclusion, and equity needs of French-speaking 2SLGBTQI+ individuals.
