Webinar: The health equity impacts of a changing climate part 2: Communicating and change-making

This webinar, presented in partnership with the Ontario Public Health Association, explores opportunities for public health staff to engage in a larger movement for a just and sustainable future. Speakers will also reflect on how to communicate about climate change as a significant health and health equity issue.
Speakers:
Courtney Howard, past president of the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment, will reflect on her substantial experience communicating about climate change as a significant local and global health issue.
Drawing from "Targeted change making for a healthy recovery" (2020), Howard’s presentation will share evidence for successful change-making in the context of planetary health. She will also identify opportunities for public health actors to listen to and mobilize Indigenous Knowledges, collaborate across sectors and prioritize social equity in their communications and change-making efforts.
Helen Doyle, chair of OPHA’s Environmental Health Workgroup, will speak to the design and implementation of #MakeItBetter, a health-based climate communications campaign. This campaign is currently in its a second phase and has integrated an explicit focus on the health equity impacts of a changing climate.
Doyle will reflect on lessons learned, the relationships that have been developed as a result of the campaign and opportunities to adapt and develop similar equity-focused climate change campaigns in other jurisdictions.
