“Investing in the health of refugees and migrants must take place not only because it is a sound public health strategy but also because health is a basic human right.”WHO (2022)

Join us for a timely discussion on practical strategies, resources, and opportunities to improve access to public health and health care services for medically uninsured migrants in Ontario at an individual, program, organizational, and policy level.

Through a new issue brief and webinar, the NCCDH and partners have highlighted the urgent need for public health to recognize and address precarious immigration status as a significant yet often overlooked determinant of health.

This webinar builds upon that work by bringing together an inter-sectoral panel, which will focus on improving access to public health and health care services for migrants in Ontario.

This webinar will include partners from the National Collaborating Centre for Determinants of Health, the Health Network for Uninsured Clients, and the Healthcare for All campaign (Decent Work and Health Network).

This webinar will be of interest to people working in Ontario and people who would like to learn from the Ontario context, including:

  • Public health and health care practitioners/providers, policy makers and decision makers
  • Community organizations
  • Instructors and educators
  • Students
  • Researchers

Webinar objectives:

  • Understand how the structural and social determinants of health contribute to inequitable health outcomes for uninsured migrant populations in Ontario.
  • Learn about practical strategies, tools, and resources to improve access to health care and public health services for uninsured clients at the practice, program, and organizational levels.
  • Explore opportunities to contribute to policy and structural change to extend health care coverage to people living in Ontario, regardless of immigration status.
