Generating Knowledge to Inform Public Health Action on Climate Change in Canada

Developed as a companion to the 2022 Chief Public Health Officer’s report (CPHO report), this document identifies research and knowledge generation opportunities that, if implemented, support public health action on the climate crisis. 

Intended audience 

Funding agencies, researchers, and knowledge generating organizations will be interested in the identified opportunities to contribute to the evidence base and mobilize related action.

Opportunities to generate knowledge in five key areas 

The contents of this report deepen the range of public health actions to address the climate crisis put forth within the CPHO report. Diverse research and knowledge generation opportunities that span multiple disciplines are listed in five key areas: 
 

  1. Public health and climate change interventions 
  2. Prioritizing equity and community in climate actions 
  3. Building knowledge on climate-health connections 
  4. Intersectoral action on climate change and the determinants of health 
  5. Public health system leadership for climate action 

 
Use this resource to: 

  • Understand current knowledge gaps related to the climate crisis and public health action 
  • Engage your team in discussions about the potential to contribute to the evidence base in five key areas
