Bien dans notre peau : élaboration d’un outil de diagnostic pour informer la conception et l’évaluation de services et de partenariats sécuritaires, inclusifs et équitables pour toute personne 2ELGBTQ+ d’expression française au Manitoba

Health, social and cultural connectedness, and the education of French-speaking 2SLGBTQ+ individuals
In 2020, during an overview study on the matter, the LGBTQ Collective of Manitoba took note of significant gaps in French language service suited to the needs of the 2SLGBTQ+ community (the “Community”). It also noted the high risk of discrimination and stigmatization these individuals encounter in all spheres of life.
Based on this study, recommendations were identified along three axes: health, social and cultural connectedness, and education.
Community engagement in the practice of health equity
In the light of this study, the LGBTQ* Collective of Manitoba undertook community consultations associated with the three main axes of the recommendations, with the aim getting community members to participate and discuss the recommendation; and based on those consultations, to develop a diagnostic tool of services and partners.
This report serves both as the pilot version of an analytical tool, and an action plan for implementing recommendations supporting the health and well-being of individuals belonging to the 2SLGBTQ+ French-speaking community in a context of linguistic minority.
Diagnostic tool for services and partners to promote health and well-being
The diagnostic tool provides a concrete and objective means to assess the quality of services designed for members of the 2SLGBTQ+ French-speaking community of Manitoba; and also to develop future services and partnerships. It is based on objective criteria developed and winning conditions identified during community consultations. The development of the diagnostic tools shows the need of community consultations on the various actions and health promotion strategies, developed with communities in vulnerable contexts, including members of the 2SLGBTQ+ French-speaking community, in order to ensure that these actions and strategies meet the needs specific to that community. Notably, the diagnostic tool underscores the significance of community participation when assessing the quality of services or partnerships designed for French-speaking 2SLGBTQI+ individuals living in a minority language context.
