The NCCDH and the National Collaborating Centre for Infectious Diseases have commissioned a situation analysis to explore the relationship between public health and primary care, and possible strategies to strengthen that relationship. This précis summarizes key findings from the situation analysis.
Priority strategic levers for systems-level change
To support an improved relationship between public health and primary care, the situation analysis proposes the following strategies:
- Strengthening positive narratives
- Redesigning education and deepen academic engagement
- Engaging public health and primary care leaders in high-level system decision-making
- Increasing community governance and engagement
- Establishing formal networks
- Increasing investment in public health and primary care
- Strengthening data, surveillance and digital systems
- Reorienting compensation models and financial incentives
- Expanding the multidisciplinary nature of primary care
Use this resource to:
- understand high-level outcomes of the situation analysis on public health and primary care; and
- strategize systems-level change to support interactions between public health and primary care.
